Text message blows up suicide bomber by accident →
The goal was to detonate a bomb in Red Square on New Years Eve and kill hundreds of people.  Fortunately the bomb was attached to a cell phone and the carrier sent a spam text message resulting in the bomb exploding killing terrorist, alone, at a safe house. To quote Wired “…the SMS might be the only time that a wireless carrier’s SMS message has ever been useful”

Egypt Leaves the Internet →
yourpalmal: Confirming what a few have reported this evening: in an action unprecedented in Internet history, the Egyptian government appears to have ordered service providers to shut down all international connections to the Internet. … every Egyptian provider, every business, bank, Internet cafe, website, school, embassy, and government office that relied on the big four Egyptian ISPs for...

Peach and Zelda Catch Up: Would you rather be trapped in a castle or a relationship? Two video’s in two days that I’ve produced for CollegeHumor that really just scream Nerdology content.  This one was directed by Vincent and written by Sarah.  It’s a great take on the relationship between the two most famous princesses in videogames. Taking 5: iTunes Is Still The Killer App
Yesterday was the 10 year anniversary of iTunes. 10 years. I’ve been using it for about 8.5.  The only program I have been using longer is Word.  But unlike Word, iTunes is a program that is constantly being maintained, managed and updated by me.  There really isn’t any other program like it.  It’s been around so long I think people are forgetting how important it has become, and...

Spider-Man Musical Commercial: A disaster $65 million in the making. I produced this video for College Humor.  I sincerely hope I can find some way to see this show before they “get their shit together.”  Something about watching a train wreck dressed like Spider-Man is appealing to me. Motorola Atrix This is one of the coolest devices to come out of CES this year. It’s an Android phone that, when docked, runs a Linux experience as if it’s a desktop or laptop.  And it saves your state when you switch OS’s so you don’t have to think about it.  I love the idea of your computer scaling in size.

Windows on ARM is a big deal, but it's not enough... →
Paul Miller has a great editorial at Engadget about Windows moving to ARM. I think this announcement the biggest of CES 2011. And if you don’t care about Windows or system on a chip you should at least read this for Paul’s use of parenthesis.  It’s almost as good as the article itself. While “Windows runs on ARM now” is a really easy thing to say, it’s an...

Engadget’s Interview With Matias Duarte, The Man Behind Android 3.0 Honeycomb Android 3.0 was built exclusively for tablets. That means the tablet market is about to become as crowded as the phone market.  Matias Duarte designed Web OS, worked on the Sidekick and now is the lead behind Android 3.0.  The interview he did with Engadget’s Joshua Topolsky is a really interesting look into...

Ultraviolet Could Be A Game Changer
Buy a movie once. Watch it on any device. Share it with friends. That’s the idea behind Ultraviolet, a connected media download service.  What does that mean exactly? It means that the film industry has finally decided to loosen its grip, ever so slightly, and they are finally allowing people who purchase their movies to watch them wherever they want… as long as it’s on a...

GroupMe hopes group texting will be the next... →
Laurie Segall helps introduce the world to GroupMe a mass texting service that actually makes a lot of sense (so much sense that I actually use it to get friends together for brunch). GroupMe’s biggest advantage is the so-called “normal factor.” While companies like Foursquare have to sell users on the benefits of sharing their location, and Twitter took years to convince the...
