Nikon Camera With Built In Projector

Nikon just raised the bar.  They have just brought to the table a 12 megapixel camera with built in projector so you can show off your photos on a nearby surface.  A 40 inch surface.

“With the touch of a button, users can project images and videos as large as 40 inches, and with the camera’s unique slideshow function, playback pictures with music…”

My television is 32 inches and this little point and shoot camera, which will MSRP for under 500 dollars, can project images and videos up to 40 inches.  Color me jealous.

There hasn’t been too much innovation in the point and shoot department to make me yearn for a camera.   Even a projector probably won’t sell me this camera… probably.  I think what I’m most excited about is possibility.  I want all cameras to have this added projector bonus.  And if this camera is even a tiny bit successful Canon and Sony and Olympus are going to have to counter with projector cameras of their own.

At some point (hopefully sooner than later) one of these companies will start building projectors into DSLRs… then you have to look out.  Because you’re going to have to put me in a coma to keep me from preordering it.  That’s what I’m excited about;  the idea that this will make other companies innovate more and eventually build these things into DSLRs.  Hopefully it’s built into what ever replaces the Canon 5D Mark II.
